Design used to be a real barrier for anyone without training. AI design tools have meaningfully lowered that barrier, though they haven't eliminated it entirely.
Canva AI
The most accessible starting point — templates plus AI-assisted generation cover posters, presentations, and social content without needing any design vocabulary.
Gamma for presentations
Turns a simple outline into a formatted, reasonably good-looking deck automatically — removes the most tedious part of slide design.
Looka or similar for basic branding
If you need a simple logo or basic brand identity for a project, AI-assisted tools get you something usable without hiring a designer.
Midjourney or DALL·E for original imagery
For genuinely custom visuals rather than templated ones — a steeper learning curve than the above, but capable of much more distinctive results.
The honest limit
These tools raise your floor dramatically, but they don't replace genuine design judgment for anything where visual quality is core to the outcome, like a real product or brand.
